Runaway cat found a year later

A Cat who ran away the day her owner was deployed to Afghanistan will be reunited with the grateful soldier after going missing for 12 months.

Victoria Young had just arrived in the war zone in May last year when she found out her two cats of 11 years, Cleopatra and Maximus, had fled after she left them under the care of a friend in Townsville, Queensland.

Young feared the worst for her beloved pets but never gave up the search and checked the RSPCA animal charity website almost every day while on her nine-month deployment.

Young, now a resident of New South Wales, nearly abandoned hope after getting back to Australia.

But she received an unexpected phone call from a vet in neighboring Queensland on Saturday, telling her Cleopatra had been recovered from a drain, over a year later.
